Ubiquiti Unifi Cloud Gateways can be found all around the world and have become especially popular with small  businesses and home users who want more business level features in their networking equipment. The reason for the post today isn't to cover anything about these devices except a full list of Domains/Subdomains that the Cloud gateways will automatically call out to for various features to function or to update. I had contacted Ubiquiti to see if they would provide some detailed information and they refused to answer the question. After several messages back and forth they decided to just ignore me. A bit unfortunate in my opinion, because as a company they have the opportunity to be transparent and build trust in their community by providing this information.

Now you might be wondering why anyone would want to know the domains/subdomains and what they are used for. Well there are 2 reasons I am going to focus on although there might be other reasons as well.

1. The environment Unifi Cloud Gateway is deployed uses a DNS whitelist to control web access. These are common in financial and educational environments for example, but can also be found with many companies today in order to block certain web traffic to prevent wasted bandwidth, but also as a security measure to block domains that are known to be malicious. Due to the amount of domains, maintaining a blacklist isn't something that most organizations are going to do. So instead they employ a whitelist, which is far easier to maintain and manage. 

2. You want to block telemetry or unknown traffic.

With that being said, since Ubiquiti refuses to be transparent. I decided to put in the work to find all their domains/subdomains and provide a list for anyone else that might be looking for this information. Additionally I will provide as much details as I have on what each domain/subdomain is used for. Keep in mind because Ubiquiti refuses to comment on what the domains/subdomains are being used for my information could be incomplete or inaccurate. It should also be noted that several of these domains are called upon thousands of times per day, which is a strong indication that they are likely used for telemetry.

Note: I am providing the full list of domains/subdomains Ubiquiti owns and uses. This doesn't mean that your cloud gateway is using all these because there are many that it doesn't rely on. I am including them so that if someone wants the full list they can have it. Furthermore depending on how your cloud gateway is configured you may see more of these or less of them used. For example if your using a local admin account to manage your cloud gateway you will have less subdomains than someone who is managing it using the cloud account.
